Growing up in southern Illinois, my parents instilled the importance of giving back. My mother, a Hispanic bilingual teacher, showed me the power of education to transform lives. Each summer, I worked alongside her mom to support migrant children — experiences that shaped her lifelong commitment to expanding opportunity and uplifting families.
